Measure a cinema cloud migration by what changes operationally
HOYTS has entered a six-year agreement to move core operations across more than 60 cinemas and 500-plus screens onto Vista's cloud operating platform. A supplier announcement is a starting point for measurement, not evidence of benefit.

The idea
Treat a systems migration as a measurement exercise: baseline the operational indicators before the migration, then measure the same ones afterwards.
Evidence
Evidence incomplete. This is a company and market announcement; it establishes the agreement, not any operational outcome.
Operator takeaway
The value of a migration is visible in downtime, deployment effort and venue interventions — not in the announcement.
Try this
Write down your nine baseline indicators before you sign anything, and agree with the supplier how each one will be measured afterwards.
Measure
System downtime, transaction performance, deployment effort, venue IT interventions, central administration hours and incident resolution.
Watch out for
Cloud migration concentrates outage risk and adds third-party dependencies; resilience must be measured alongside efficiency.
What is being announced
A six-year agreement to move core operations across more than 60 cinemas and over 500 screens onto a cloud operating platform. This is a supplier and company announcement, and it should not be presented as evidence that cloud systems improve cinema performance.
Why it caught our attention
Large systems programmes are frequently justified with capability language and rarely evaluated with operational numbers. The announcement is a good prompt to build the measurement framework first.
Baseline before migration
System downtime, transaction performance, deployment effort, venue IT interventions, central administration hours, incident resolution, security events, software deployment time, and the ability to launch estate-wide features.
After migration
Measure the same indicators. Also track migration disruption, training, implementation cost, third-party dependencies, outage concentration and operational resilience.
What another cinema might adapt
The framework works at any scale. A two-site independent can baseline downtime, till performance and support calls before changing a point-of-sale system.
Questions to consider
Who owns the measurement — you or the supplier? What is the agreed definition of an incident? What happens to trading if connectivity fails at a single venue?
What is currently known
The agreement exists, its term is stated, and the estate covered is described in the market announcement.
What has not yet been reported
No operational results have been published, and no independent evidence of benefit exists at this stage.
