A cinema bundle works better when the commercial fences are clear

Ster-Kinekor's Epic Deal combines a ticket and concessions while controlling day, format, membership and discount stacking — the architecture matters more than the price.

Operator Briefing

The idea

Build a bundle around explicit fences — day, member status, format and stacking rules — rather than around a headline price.

Evidence

Observed example. The bundle and its constraints are published; performance data is not.

Operator takeaway

The fences are what stop a bundle discounting demand you already had at full price.

Try this

Take an existing bundle and write down its five fences. If any of them is missing, model what it is costing you.

Measure

Member acquisition, weekday occupancy, bundle mix, food and beverage attachment, contribution and cannibalisation.

Watch out for

Bundles with no format protection quietly migrate customers away from premium formats.

What they are doing

The published bundle includes a 2D or 3D ticket, regular popcorn and a regular drink. Constraints include Monday to Friday availability, a loyalty membership requirement, premium formats excluded, competing discounts that cannot be stacked, and loyalty points that are still earned.

Why it caught our attention

The price itself is not the important lesson. The architecture is: value, plus identification, plus off-peak targeting, plus format protection, plus anti-stacking.

How the mechanism works

Membership identifies the customer, the weekday window aims the discount at soft demand, and the format and stacking rules protect the higher-margin business from being discounted by accident.

What another cinema might adapt

Define your own bundle according to target dayparts, member status, product margin, premium exclusions, promotional compatibility and points earning — in that order.

Questions to consider

Which of your current offers can be stacked today? What would happen to premium-format mix if the bundle were available at weekends?

What could be measured

Member acquisition, weekday occupancy, bundle mix, food and beverage attachment, contribution, cannibalisation and premium-format migration.

What is currently known

The bundle contents and its restrictions are published.

What has not yet been reported

No occupancy, mix or contribution results have been published for the offer.
